
Phnom Penh, 26 January 2026 — Cambodia has officially confirmed its decision to join the Board of Peace, according to an official government press release issued following a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, Commander of the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM).
The meeting, held at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh, focused on strengthening Cambodia–United States relations, enhancing defense and security cooperation, and promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
According to the press release, Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed Cambodia’s commitment to peaceful dialogue, multilateral cooperation, and respect for international law. He emphasized that Cambodia’s decision to join the Board of Peace aligns with the country’s long-standing foreign policy of peace, neutrality, and constructive engagement with the international community.
The United States welcomed Cambodia’s decision and reiterated its commitment to deepening bilateral ties. In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh said: “U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh welcomes Admiral Samuel J. Paparo, commander of U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, to Cambodia. This morning, Adm. Paparo met with PM Manet for discussions on the U.S.-Cambodian defense relationship and ways to strengthen our bilateral ties and support for regional stability. The United States and Cambodia will work shoulder-to-shoulder to uphold a free and open Indo-Pacific.”
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on regional and global security developments, including maritime security, humanitarian cooperation, and the importance of diplomatic solutions to emerging challenges. They reaffirmed their shared interest in maintaining peace, stability, and prosperity in Southeast Asia, in line with ASEAN-centered cooperation.
Observers noted that Cambodia’s confirmation to join the Board of Peace comes at a significant moment amid ongoing regional diplomatic efforts and reflects Cambodia’s intention to play a more active and responsible role in international peace and stability initiatives.
The meeting concluded with mutual appreciation for the continued development of Cambodia–U.S. relations and a shared commitment to ongoing dialogue and cooperation in support of regional and global peace.
