Phnom Penh, April 3, 2026  Prime Minister Hun Manet has stated that Cambodia does not require fuel imports from Thailand, affirming that the country has sufficient alternative sources of petroleum supply from other countries.

The Prime Minister also ordered strict legal action against companies involved in illegally smuggling fuel from Thailand into Cambodia, following Thai media reports exposing a cross-border fuel smuggling network.

In a message posted on Facebook on April 3, 2026, Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed H.E. Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy; H.E. Sar Thet, Commissioner General of the National Police; and H.E. Kun Nhem to thoroughly investigate the alleged illegal smuggling network.

The Prime Minister recalled that Cambodia has suspended imports of all types of fuel and gas from Thailand since June 2025 and reiterated that there is no necessity to resume such imports, given the country’s diversified and sufficient energy supply sources.

He stressed that if the allegations are confirmed, authorities must identify all individuals and entities involved and enforce the strictest legal measures.

At the same time, Prime Minister Hun Manet warned that any fuel companies found to be involved could face license revocation. If government officials or members of the armed forces are implicated, they will be dismissed and removed from their positions, regardless of rank or status.
