By: Vicheat: Preah Vihear — Despite the signing of a ceasefire agreement during the third special meeting of the General Border Committee on 27 December 2025, security conditions in provinces along the Cambodia–Thailand border remain fragile, leaving many schools and hospitals in Preah Vihear province still unable to resume operations.

Cambodia’s Minister of Interior, Sar Sokha, wrote on his official Facebook page that from 6:00 a.m. on 6 January to 6:00 a.m. on 7 January 2026, a total of 61 schools and 14 hospitals or health centers in Preah Vihear province remained closed due to ongoing security concerns.

During the same period, 12 schools, 12 hospitals and health centers, as well as one district-level public service institution and six commune-level public service offices, were able to reopen after authorities assessed that security conditions had improved.

Meanwhile, Neang Sothea, a displaced resident from Morat village, Techo Development commune, Choam Ksan district, said the conflict has caused serious hardship for local communities, particularly in accessing safe water for daily consumption.

She added that residents are deeply concerned about their health following reports of chemical spraying by Thai forces, which they fear may have contaminated water sources, the environment, and posed risks to public health in border areas.

The situation highlights that despite the ceasefire agreement, the restoration of normal daily life for communities along the border will require time, continued security monitoring, and sustained support from relevant authorities.
