PHNOM PENH, Aug. 24, 2026 — Cambodia is promoting the implementation of ASEAN principles on responsible investment in food, agriculture and forestry, with a focus on strengthening food security, sustainable development and resilience to climate change.

According to a notice issued by the General Secretariat of the National Assembly, Cambodia is hosting a Parliamentary Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue on Responsible Investment for Food Security and Climate, scheduled for Aug. 25-26, 2026, at the National Assembly in Phnom Penh.

The dialogue is being organised in cooperation with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Secretariat and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), with the aim of promoting the implementation of the ASEAN Guidelines on Promoting Responsible Investment in Food, Agriculture and Forestry at the national and regional levels.

The National Assembly said the dialogue aims to raise awareness and strengthen the participation of parliamentarians, relevant government institutions, the private sector, development partners and international organisations in promoting responsible investment and supporting food security across the ASEAN region.

Discussions will focus on key issues including strengthening food security, promoting responsible investment, developing the agricultural sector and responding to climate change, which is increasingly affecting food production systems across the region.

The dialogue will also provide an opportunity for parliamentarians and stakeholders to exchange experiences, discuss policies and explore multi-stakeholder cooperation to ensure that investment in food, agriculture and forestry contributes to economic growth, poverty reduction and the protection of natural resources.

The dialogue is being held in line with the ASEAN RAI Parliamentary Implementation Framework 2024-2030, which seeks to strengthen the role of ASEAN parliaments in promoting responsible and sustainable investment in food, agriculture and forestry.

The framework gives parliaments a role not only in legislation, but also in overseeing policy implementation, monitoring investment and helping ensure that economic development delivers equitable benefits to people, particularly farming and rural communities.

Through parliamentary engagement, stakeholders can also contribute to creating a policy and legal environment that encourages responsible investment while taking into account social, environmental and economic considerations.

The dialogue comes as ASEAN places increasing importance on building resilient food systems and promoting investment that takes into account climate change, environmental protection and the livelihoods of local communities.

For Cambodia, where agriculture remains an important part of the economy and rural livelihoods, ensuring that investment is responsible is seen as important to strengthening food security, creating employment, improving rural incomes and supporting sustainable development.

The Cambodian National Assembly's initiative also provides an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with ASEAN parliaments, development partners and international organisations in promoting investment that benefits communities, protects natural resources and contributes to more resilient food systems.

The dialogue is expected to bring together parliamentarians and representatives of relevant institutions and stakeholders to exchange knowledge and good practices and identify practical approaches for advancing the ASEAN agenda on responsible investment in food, agriculture and forestry.
